Research and Development
The DLCO-EA and its development partners, have developed the following migrant pest control tools:
- The Exhaust Nozzles sprayer (ENS) which has been used for over two decades for locust and armyworm control in Africa and elsewhere.
- The Aircraft Spray Pod System that is being used world-wide. It comprises self-contained pesticide tanks suspended under aircraft wings. The pods replaced the in-built tank that posed a high risk of chemical poisoning to the crew, and corrosion to the metal parts.
- The STU Vehicle-mounted Sprayer, developed collaboratively, is a simple, durable and cheap sprayer, designed to ensure environmental safety and self-reliance on local products for locust and armyworm control.
- The Ultra Low Volume (ULV) technology, developed collaboratively for applying minimal dosage of pesticides consistent with efficacy and environmental safety.
- The DLCO-EA renders services to its member countries in evaluating pest control equipment and pesticides for migrant pest control, monitoring the impact of chemicals on humans and in the environment, and the search for safer pesticides, including bio-pesticides.
